bottom drains
« on: March 01, 2013, 03:01:51 PM »
Hello,
I have a linear pond; 4' wide x 3' deep x 16' long.   Above grade.
I am considering building a linear slot drain along the center of the pond:
4" pvc pipe x 16' long with 1/2 wide slots along the sides. Pond bottom would slope toward the slots. drain would exit pond to mech. filter and then bio filter.
I was hoping for an opinion.

We've never attempted this ourselves, but based on your design it looks like it should work just fine.  We generally use either DreamPond Koi Toilet or Rhino Bottom Drains for most of our builds.  To help maximize water flow and ensure optimal performance, we recommend your bottom drain circuits to be 3" if the run is under 25'.  If the pipe run is over 25' then we recommend using 4" PVC to help offset the head loss.  Hope this helps... ;)
